Business Intelligence (bi) Connect

Of the spy business turned into limelights. We’ve got SAP Business Data Portfolio listed, for example, on the new Data Values chart as an on-premise compatible SAP Analytics Cloud.

For a product whose heritage goes back to 1984 and a Canadian shipping company that needs some Quik Report 1 this is really great news for many fans.

Previously, we have already published two articles about how BusinessObjects Business Intelligence suite fits into the SAP Analytics portfolio with SAP NetWeaver BI, SAP Predictive Analytics, SAP Lumira, and SAP Analytics Cloud.

We won’t go into detail either into the fiorified (yes, that’s the word Spelling Checker) BI Launch Pad and other enhancements to Webi or IDT. You can find these listed in the What’s New Guide for SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Suite 4.3, which is full of great news here on Community.

Sap Business Objects Single Sign On (sso) Solution

For the business side of things visit the product page on SAP.com. Here we find the key benefits, capabilities, price, packaging, etc.

For documentation visit the SAP Help Portal. Here we have a What’s New Guide, a guide on installation and updates, administrative guides, user guides, and various reference guides.

The one-stop shop for product information, knowledge base information, events, licenses, and downloads is the SAP ONE Support Launchpad. To access this resource you need a SAP S-User account (Your new S-User ID – Your key to the SAP Ecosystem).

If you just want to bookmark one resource from this blog, make it a product page on ONE SAP Support. This page is continuously maintained with relevant support information.

As the number of articles and notes can be overwhelming, there is an Answer Guide to help you find your way.

You can use the License Key application on the launch pad to generate your license key. There are also emergency (temporary) license keys to download from the public section of the portal

Not part of the SAP ONE Support Launchpad but still an important source of information is the Product Matrix. Here we find official release dates (RTC, GA, EMM), supported operating systems, browsers, etc.

As you are reading this blog on community you probably already know this fact but for those who reached this page through search, SAP Community is a good place to stay updated about SAP products, read the latest blog posts . and ask (or answer) questions.

A dedicated page for the BusinessObjects BI suite does not exist but it is easy to create your own feed by choosing a brand to follow (and set how you want to be notified in your profile). It works with both answers.

The SAP Crystal Repots theme area is still available and there is a theme area for SAP Analytics:

There are a large number of courses about the business intelligence of BusinessObjects and the best way to get a complete picture of what is available (and a list of things to take) is through the Learning Journey.

There are many titles about the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform, the latest about Set Analysis with SAP BusinessObjects BI by Pierpaolo VEZZOSI from 2019.

The global intelligence software market reached $12.2 billion in 2011, according to a Gartner report released in early 2012. The top five vendors in this space account for nearly 75 percent of the total global market. Leading among them is SAP with $2.8 billion in revenue and 23.6 percent of the market in 2011, and Oracle with $1.9 billion in revenue to claim 15.6 percent of the market.

With these two software giants dominating the BI sector, a common question – and one we’ve seen before in the Community – is how do SAP BusinessObjects and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) compare?

OBIEE is Oracle’s flagship BI offering. It is a complete suite of BI applications built around the core components of Siebel Analytics and Hyperion Solutions. OBIEE is a cross-platform solution written in C++ and Java. It provides a unified framework to implement a range of analytical tasks, including dynamic dashboards, ad hoc reporting, business and financial reporting, real-time forecasting, predictive analytics, and more.

OBIEE consists of several component applications. The core of the system is Oracle Business Intelligence Server, a premium platform for delivering powerful data and analytics capabilities across a connected network to users across the enterprise. Its integrated architecture provides a consistent experience across components, including: Oracle BI Server, Oracle BI Answers, Oracle BI Interactive Dashboards, Oracle BI Delivers, Oracle BI Disconnected Analytics, Oracle BI Publisher, and Oracle BI Briefing Books, and Hyperion Interactive Reporting, Hyperion SQR Production Reports, Hyperion Financial Reports, and Hyperion Web Research.

Like Oracle, SAP has become a leader in BI mostly through strategic acquisitions. In 2007 SAP purchased French BI powerhouse BusinessObjects for nearly $7 billion, and today the BusinessObjects name is still associated with SAP’s flagship BI offering.

SAP BusinessObjects is an easy-to-use, BI service that provides visibility into business data and performance in real time. Some of the key features are customizable reports, the ability to analyze large data sources in the web and Microsoft Office environment, predictive analytics, flexible dashboards, mobility, and a flexible, scalable BI platform. From a feature standpoint, BusinessObjects is very robust, and gives customers the ability to add products as their needs change over time.

Both BO and OBIEE have been ranked in Gartner’s recent Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence. In the Forrester Wave for Self-Service BI, released in Q2 of 2012, Forrester ranked SAP as a leader and Oracle as a strong performer.

In the self-service business intelligence sector, success depends on fast delivery of work, data visualization, and powerful data analysis capabilities, and to that end, in-memory data management is all the rage. In fact, Forrester cites SAP’s strong in-memory DBMS as a differentiator for BusinessObjects. While most DBMS engines are limited to the analysis of “a few hundred” GBs of data at any time, “SAP now offers the interesting integration of BusinessObjects Explorer with its extensive search and discovery capabilities and SAP HANA in – memory tool.”

Oracle has previously been lacking in in-memory data analytics, but has closed the gap according to Forrester with the release of Exalytics in-memory BI engine.

On the flip side, Forrester Researchers saw a need for greater integration and coordination across the various SAP BusinessObjects applications. “Beyond self-service, SAP still needs to strengthen product-to-product integration to cover many areas of integration in its BI product portfolio, for example, its need for a common UI and efficient reuse of components.” This is a particular area where OBIEE excels.

There are some interesting insights about OBIEE and BO from Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for BI Platforms. Although both vendors are leading the market, both have received some negative comments. Oracle was “below average in services, support, and product quality,” and SAP ranked below average for “BI services…performance, cost, and roadmap confusion.” This begs the question of why they continue to have such market importance, but that’s a different blog.

Sap Businessobjects Bi Excel Add In

Oracle customers have been choosing OBIEE over many competitors because of its wide range of services. These same customers ignore ease of use and cost when making their purchase. OBIEE is very expensive, even compared to BusinessObjects, so customers ignoring the price really says something about the type of organizations that are shopping for OBIEE.

If Gartner were to answer the question of OBIEE or BusinessObjects, the answer would likely be “no.” Or at least provide a compelling reason to enjoy exploring some secondary market leaders and challengers. BI is a rapidly evolving area, and there are 100s of vendors hot on the heels of these two titans clamoring for your attention.
